Franchise Status: Active across streaming platforms with sporadic revival specials and spin-off continuations.
Ghost Hunters remains a definitive pillar of television, having concluded its influential run on Travel Channel. Originally debuting on Sci-Fi Channel before migrating networks, the pioneering reality series codified the paranormal investigation formula. By framing supernatural inquiry through working-class skepticism, blue-collar pragmatism, and consumer tech, it spawned an entire genre. Even as later seasons transitioned across Discovery platforms, the foundational exploits of TAPS permanently altered unscripted cable programming, transforming localized folklore and amateur ghost-hunting into a mainstream cultural obsession.

Frequently Asked Questions
Ghost Hunters originally ended its initial run on October 26, 2016, on Syfy after eleven seasons when lead investigator Jason Hawes and the production team chose to let their network contract expire. Hawes decided to step away to pursue other television and paranormal projects, bringing a close to the original cable flagship era before the series moved to A&E, Travel Channel, and discovery+ in later revivals.
Across its entire television lifespan spanning multiple networks, Ghost Hunters produced 16 seasons containing roughly 250 canonical episodes and numerous specials. The run includes 11 original seasons on Syfy, a two-season revival on A&E, and subsequent seasons produced for discovery+ and the Travel Channel.
The series premiered on the Sci-Fi Channel (later Syfy) in 2004, where it aired for eleven seasons until 2016. In 2019, A&E revived the franchise with Grant Wilson leading for seasons 12 and 13, before original lead Jason Hawes returned when the brand shifted to discovery+ and Travel Channel for seasons 14 through 16.
The show spawned several direct spin-offs including Ghost Hunters International, which tracked paranormal activity overseas, and Ghost Hunters Academy, which functioned as a training competition. In addition, core team members later launched related investigative programs such as Ghost Nation and Kindred Spirits under the wider franchise umbrella.
Following the conclusion of Season 16 on Travel Channel and discovery+ in 2023, the series has not received an active renewal order for Season 17. While no formal revival is in immediate production, the principal investigators remain active across media and live events, leaving open the potential for future specials or independent productions.
