Over the last several months, the vast majority of my engineering focus has been dedicated to deep infrastructure. Between completely rebuilding our backend notification dispatch engine, creating automated migration tools for TV Time refugees, and modernizing our outbound email pipelines, the foundation of Series Reminder is faster, cleaner, and more resilient than ever.
Because Series Reminder is built and maintained entirely by a single independent developer, I have to be deliberate about how I spend my engineering time. Now that our core infrastructure is rock-solid, it’s time to focus on the everyday features that make tracking TV effortless. Here is a look at what’s on the workbench for 2026 and 2027.
One of the features most requested by former TV Time users is a streamlined queue showing your immediate next episode across all active series. Instead of clicking into individual show pages, the upcoming "Up Next" Feed will automatically surface the exact next episode you need to watch across your watchlist with a 1-click "Mark Watched" toggle.
The release calendar is one of the most visited pages on the site, and it is getting a major quality-of-life update:
Our Plex Scrobbling integration has been a huge hit, but I’ve heard loud and clear from the self-hosted community: we need native Jellyfin support. I am designing a dedicated Jellyfin webhook integration so you can stream on your local server and have Series Reminder automatically update your watch history in real time. Down the road, I also plan to explore webhooks for Emby and Sonarr.
Right now, removing a show from your favorites list deletes its watch history. The new Archive Status will let you keep finished or dropped series saved in your lifetime watch logs and viewing stats, while safely hiding them from your active calendar and release reminders.
To provide a fast mobile experience without app store bloat or third-party ad tracking, Series Reminder is adopting full Progressive Web App (PWA) capabilities. You will soon be able to tap "Add to Home Screen" on iOS or Android to install Series Reminder as a standalone, full-screen app complete with a native home-screen icon and fast caching.
Television tracking happens mostly at night, and dark mode is long overdue. I am refactoring our frontend styling to support native Bootstrap 5 theme switching, giving you a clean toggle in your navigation bar to flip seamlessly between Light and Dark mode.

I am consolidating our three separate favorites views into a single, unified watchlist experience. This will include an on-the-fly layout switcher (Poster Grid, Detailed List, or Compact Table) and a new Bulk Editor so you can update reminder rules or manage shows across your entire library in just a few clicks.
Your dashboard will evolve into a true homepage featuring quick viewing streaks, monthly progress stats, and a redesigned Streaming Budget Optimizer. It will calculate which streaming services hold the bulk of your unwatched backlog, making it simple to decide which subscriptions to activate this month and which ones to pause.
