As an ambitious ecological thriller, the production was conceived as a global event with a massive scope, filming across multiple international locations including Prague, Paris, and Abu Dhabi to capture the collapse of the world's energy infrastructure. This high-budget scale required significant logistical coordination between MGM International TV Productions and streaming partners to adapt Alex Scarrow's novel into a self-contained narrative experience.

The creative team designed the story with a definitive conclusion because it was structured specifically to resolve the central mystery of the global blackout within its five-part framework. By focusing on the Yeats family's journey to reunite amidst the chaos, the writers ensured that the primary character arcs and the overarching geopolitical conspiracy were fully addressed. This closed-ended approach was a deliberate choice to provide viewers with a complete and satisfying resolution that mirrored the finality of the source material.
