Plex scrobbling refers to the automatic, background tracking of the media you stream on your personal Plex Media Server. Once configured, the process is completely invisible. When you watch at least 70% of a TV episode, your Plex server automatically pushes an alert to Series Reminder, updating your watch history instantly.
Because real-time webhook processing requires dedicated background server resources, this feature is available exclusively to users with a Premium Subscription.
How Plex Scrobbling Works
As you watch movies and shows, your Plex Media Server generates background status events. Series Reminder is configured to listen specifically for the media.scrobble event, which indicates a file has been successfully watched. When our system receives this event, it executes the following actions:
- Auto-Add Favorites: If the TV show is not already in your Series Reminder watchlist, the system automatically adds it to your favorites list.
- Default Notification Settings: Automatically added shows will have the "Season Premiere" notification type enabled by default. If the show is already in your favorites, your existing notification settings will not be touched.
- TV Show Matching: Only TV series will be parsed and tracked. Movies, home videos, and other media types are ignored by Series Reminder.
Setup Instructions (Step-by-Step)
To use this integration, you must have an active Plex Pass subscription, as Plex restricts custom outbound webhooks to their premium tier.
- Log into your Plex Account portal at plex.tv.
- In the top-right user menu, select Account Settings.
- Navigate to the left-hand menu and click on Webhooks.
- Click the Add Webhook button.
- Copy your unique, personal Webhook URL from our dedicated Plex Webhooks Integration page, paste it into the Plex destination field, and click save.
Once saved, your tracking is fully automated. Simply stream your shows on any Plex client (TV app, phone, or browser), and your Series Reminder dashboard will update in real time. If you run into any issues during the webhook setup, please feel free to contact me for support!
