Production Note - Limited Series

Production Type: Limited Series

The Innocent is a standalone Limited Series designed as a completed, finite historical narrative. This Spanish production, adapted from the popular novel by Harlan Coben, was developed as a high-stakes thriller with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Directed by Oriol Paulo, the series utilizes an intricate non-linear structure to unravel a complex web of secrets involving a man trying to escape his past after an accidental killing. The production scale reflects a premium cinematic approach, utilizing various locations across Barcelona and Spain to ground the mystery in a gritty, realistic atmosphere.

Netflix and the creative team intended for the project to be a self-contained experience that fully exhausts the source material within its eight-episode run. By resolving the primary mystery and providing closure for the central characters, the show avoided the traditional cliffhangers associated with multi-season dramas. This finite approach allowed the writers to maintain a high level of tension and narrative density, ensuring that every plot thread was meticulously tied together by the series finale.

Production Trivia: The series was created and directed by Oriol Paulo, produced by Sospecha Films and Think Studio for Netflix. It stars Mario Casas, Aura Garrido, and Jose Coronado. The production consists of eight episodes and is part of Netflix's multi-project deal with author Harlan Coben.
