Series Deep Dive:

In Wilderness, betrayal fuels a calculated cross-country descent into psychological warfare. Starring Jenna Coleman and Oliver Jackson-Cohen, the miniseries transforms American national parks into claustrophobic pressure cookers. Rather than relying on standard domestic thriller formulas, the complete narrative balances toxic relationship politics with suspenseful calculation, delivering a sharp, vindictive character study where picturesque vistas mask lethal intent.

Production Note - Limited Series

Production Type: Limited Series

Wilderness (2023) is a standalone Limited Series designed as a completed, finite historical narrative. Developed as a psychological thriller for Amazon Prime Video, the production was crafted specifically to adapt the source novel by B.E. Jones in its entirety. The creative team chose the miniseries format to provide a focused, high-stakes exploration of a crumbling marriage and a revenge plot that concludes definitively within its six-episode structure.

The production scale was significant, featuring extensive location shooting across various iconic American landscapes to mirror the emotional volatility of the characters. Because the series was envisioned as a closed-ended story, the narrative arc reaches a final resolution that satisfies the requirements of the original text. This finite approach ensures that the historical record of the series remains a single, self-contained installment within the streaming landscape.

Production Trivia: Created and written by Marnie Dickens and directed by So Yong Kim, the series was produced by Firebird Pictures for Amazon Prime Video.

Frequently Asked Questions

Wilderness was produced as a standalone limited series, meaning there are currently no plans for a second season. The story reaches a definitive conclusion at the end of the final episode, and it would only return if reimagined as an anthology series.

The series is not based on a true story but is an adaptation of the 2017 novel of the same name by B.E. Jones. This psychological thriller follows the original source material's plot regarding a marriage pushed to the brink during a high-stakes road trip.

The production filmed on location across North America, featuring iconic spots like the Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park, and Las Vegas. Additional scenes were captured in New York City and various scenic locations throughout British Columbia and Alberta, Canada.

The complete series consists of six episodes, all of which were released on Prime Video in September 2023. Each episode runs for approximately 45 to 60 minutes to cover the full narrative arc of the book.

The series stars Jenna Coleman as Liv Taylor and Oliver Jackson-Cohen as her husband, Will. Their performances drive the central conflict of the show as they navigate a perilous journey through the American wilderness.

The show follows a British couple whose dream holiday turns into a nightmare after the wife discovers her husband is having an affair. She plots her revenge while they travel through rugged National Parks, blending elements of a road movie with a psychological thriller.

The opening credits feature a re-recorded version of Look What You Made Me Do by Taylor Swift. This Taylor’s Version track was specifically used to set the tone for the series' central themes of betrayal and revenge.
