Life (2020) is a standalone Limited Series designed as a completed, finite historical narrative. Developed by Mike Bartlett, the production captures the interconnected lives of residents living in a subdivided Victorian house in Manchester. The scale of the production was intentionally intimate, focusing on character-driven arcs rather than long-term procedural elements. By utilizing a shared universe with Doctor Foster, the series grounded itself in established emotional stakes while maintaining a distinct, self-contained trajectory that allowed each resident's journey to reach a natural resolution within its six-episode order.

The decision to frame the project as a finite run stemmed from the creator's desire to provide a comprehensive snapshot of contemporary human connection without the need for seasonal cliffhangers. The production design and writing focused on the finality of these specific life transitions, ensuring that the thematic elements of grief, love, and rebirth were fully explored.
