Production Type: Miniseries

Extraordinary Attorney Woo is a standalone Miniseries designed as a completed, finite historical narrative. The production was conceived as a comprehensive exploration of Woo Young-woo's personal and professional growth as an attorney with autism spectrum disorder. By focusing on a specific legal career arc and a curated set of episodic cases, the creators ensured the story reached a natural thematic conclusion within its original sixteen-episode order.

The series achieved global recognition for its high production values and specific narrative focus, which prioritized a complete character study over an open-ended procedural format. Although its massive commercial success led to discussions regarding a potential second installment, the primary narrative was meticulously crafted as a self-contained experience that resolved the core emotional and legal conflicts introduced at the start of the season.

Production Trivia: Produced by AStory, KT StudioGenie, and Nangmanband, the series was written by Moon Ji-won and directed by Yoo In-shik.

However, official filming schedules and casting updates depend on the availability of the lead actors and production staff. Fans are currently waiting for a finalized release date from the network.

The series is a fictional work and not based on a single true story or a specific person. However, the writer Moon Ji-won consulted with experts to ensure the portrayal of autism was respectful and nuanced. Some legal cases in the show were inspired by real-life South Korean court cases and essays written by public defenders.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo is an original screenplay written by Moon Ji-won specifically for television. It is not an adaptation of a novel or a webtoon, although a webtoon adaptation was launched after the show became a hit. The story was developed to explore the growth of a lawyer with autism spectrum disorder in a competitive law firm environment.

The series was filmed primarily in South Korea, with many scenes set in the Gangnam District of Seoul. Notable filming locations include the 'Kajaguruma' restaurant in Suwon, which served as Woo Young-woo's father's kimbap shop. Other major scenes were captured at the Ulsan District Court and various modern office buildings across the capital city.

The first season of the series consists of 16 episodes in total. Each episode typically runs for approximately 70 minutes, following a weekly broadcast schedule during its original run. The entire season is currently available for streaming on platforms like Netflix.

The titular character Woo Young-woo is portrayed by actress Park Eun-bin, who received critical acclaim for her performance. Her portrayal earned her the Grand Prize in the TV category at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards. She spent significant time researching and preparing for the role to avoid using stereotypes.
