GATE

Originally airing on Tokyo MX, the anime series *GATE* explores what happens when a mysterious portal opens in modern-day Tokyo, unleashing an army of fantasy creatures upon the city. After the technologically superior Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) repel the invasion, they send a reconnaissance team through the gate to the "Special Region" on the other side. The story follows Youji Itami, a slacker soldier and otaku, who finds himself leading a unit in this new world of elves, dragons, and magic. The series masterfully blends modern military action with classic fantasy adventure as the JSDF navigates diplomacy and conflict in a land straight out of a storybook.
