Frequently Asked Questions
The series has not been officially canceled, but it concluded its second season arc in late 2023. Further production is currently hindered by the fact that the original manga has been on an indefinite hiatus for over a decade, leaving limited source material to adapt.
There are currently no official announcements or credible rumors regarding a third season or a new revival. Since the 2022 Netflix series is already a modern reboot of the franchise, any future updates would likely be a continuation of the current production rather than another restart.
There are currently two seasons of the modern adaptation available for streaming. The first season consists of 24 episodes, while the second season, subtitled Hell's Requiem, features 15 episodes.
While there are no modern animated spin-offs, the franchise includes an original six-episode OVA series released in 1992. Additionally, the series has expanded into light novels and several Japanese video games released during the height of the manga's popularity.
The 2022 Netflix series is a complete reboot of the story rather than a sequel to the 1990s version. It starts the narrative from the beginning to provide a more faithful and extended adaptation of the original manga's plot.
The anime only covers the earlier arcs of the story and does not reach a definitive conclusion. Because the original manga remains unfinished and on hiatus, the animated series lacks a final chapter to adapt for a series finale.
