Produced by Hello Sunshine and Cinestar, the production was conceived as a faithful adaptation of Tembi Locke's memoir, tracing a complete emotional arc from a chance meeting in Florence to the profound challenges of loss and cross-cultural healing. The project was structured from its inception to cover the specific chronological milestones of the source material, ensuring that the thematic journey reached a natural and definitive resolution without the need for subsequent seasons.

The scale of the production involved significant international filming locations across Italy and Los Angeles to capture the authentic texture of the protagonist's life over several decades. Because the narrative is rooted in a true personal history with a clear beginning, middle, and end, the creative team prioritized a high-fidelity rendering of the memoir's conclusion. This focus on a closed-ended structure allowed the series to function as a singular artistic statement, fulfilling its purpose as a comprehensive exploration of grief and resilience within the bounds of its eight-episode run.
