Monsieur Spade is a standalone limited series that concluded its 6-episode run in February 2024. This neo-noir crime drama represents a high-profile international co-production between AMC and Canal Plus, filmed primarily on location in the south of France to capture the authentic atmosphere of the early 1960s. The project was conceived as a prestige miniseries designed to reimagine the iconic detective Sam Spade in a specific historical context, moving away from the traditional San Francisco setting to explore his life in retirement.

The production utilized a cinematic approach with a single director, Scott Frank, helming all episodes to ensure a consistent visual and narrative style across the entire story arc. Because the series was structured as a character study focusing on a specific mystery involving a local convent, the narrative reaches a comprehensive resolution that ties up the primary conflict.
