The Going Merry has officially set sail for its most ambitious voyage yet, as cameras are currently rolling on the highly anticipated third season. Netflix has doubled down on their blockbuster adaptation, with principal photography well underway at Cape Town Film Studios. Insiders report the production team is meticulously crafting the monumental set pieces required for the beloved Alabasta saga. Showrunners are navigating massive practical sets, blending them seamlessly with advanced volume technology.

The sheer scale of this logistical undertaking cannot be overstated, requiring extensive coordination for the sprawling ensemble cast and intricate stunt choreography. While filming is progressing smoothly, the heavy reliance on complex visual effects guarantees a lengthy post-production cycle. Expect the crew to remain on location through the fall, pushing the premiere window deep into the end of 2027.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Netflix officially renewed One Piece for Season 3, subtitled The Battle of Alabasta, ahead of the premiere of its second season. The streaming platform greenlit the third chapter to streamline the ongoing storyline following the debut of Season 2 in March 2026.

Season 3 is actively filming in Cape Town, South Africa, having commenced physical production in late 2025. The project will subsequently enter extensive visual effects post-production ahead of its planned 2027 premiere window.

The prolonged production timeline is driven by elaborate practical set builds and labor-intensive computer-generated visual effects, which include complex creature design, weather simulations, and superpower animations. Additionally, creator Eiichiro Oda exercises direct creative oversight and approval over scripts, set details, and final cuts before episodes can be cleared for release.

Netflix has not announced any live-action narrative spin-offs, choosing instead to focus resources directly on adapting the central manga storyline. The platform has, however, expanded adjacent franchise offerings, including co-producing the remake anime series The One Piece with Wit Studio alongside animated Lego promotional specials.

The third season directly continues the Straw Hat Pirates' voyage across the Grand Line into the Kingdom of Alabasta. The narrative centers on their confrontation with the criminal organization Baroque Works and the unfolding civil war endangering Princess Vivi's desert kingdom.
