This high-profile adaptation of Naoki Urasawa's manga was conceived as a prestige project to translate the entirety of the eight-volume source material into a single, cohesive cinematic experience. Produced by Studio M2 and Genco with the cooperation of Tezuka Productions, the series utilizes an unconventional format of eight feature-length episodes to ensure the complex themes of artificial intelligence and war are fully explored without the need for subsequent seasons.

The production was meticulously planned over several years to honor the legacy of Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy while maintaining the dark, investigative tone of the reimagining.
