By focusing on the Sinnoh region and bringing back fan-favorite characters like Dawn and Brock, the series was designed to celebrate the franchise's history while exploring the lore of the mythical Pokémon Arceus. This specific narrative arc was intended as a self-contained celebration rather than a new ongoing branch of the main series.

Because the story serves as a specific thematic tie-in to the Hisui region's mythology, the production was scaled as a limited miniseries with a clear beginning, middle, and end.
