Production Note - Limited Series

Production Type: Miniseries

The Night Of is a standalone Miniseries designed as a completed, finite historical narrative. Developed as a gritty, hyper-realistic exploration of the American criminal justice system, the production utilized an eight-part structure to follow the arrest and trial of Nasir Khan. The project was meticulously crafted to function as a closed-loop investigation, focusing on the procedural nuances and the transformative impact of incarceration rather than establishing a multi-season franchise model.

The production scale was significant, involving extensive location filming in New York City and a high-profile cast led by Riz Ahmed and John Turturro. By adapting a specific British television format into a localized American context, the creators intended to provide a comprehensive look at the legal machinery from start to finish. This intentional design ensured that the primary mystery was resolved and the character arcs were finalized, cementing its status as a singular television event.

Production Trivia: The series is an American adaptation of the first season of the BBC series Criminal Justice, developed for HBO by Richard Price and Steven Zaillian.
