Frequently Asked Questions

The BBC officially renewed the series for a third season in early 2025. Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie are returning to their lead roles as DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre. The new episodes are scheduled to premiere later in 2026.

The third season is currently in the final stages of post-production and visual effects. Filming officially wrapped in January 2026 after extensive shoots in Scotland and the remote Arctic archipelago of Svalbard. The BBC recently released the first teaser trailer in June 2026 to build anticipation for the upcoming premiere.

The extended gaps between seasons are primarily due to the complex logistical requirements of filming in highly challenging environments. The production team designs ambitious sets and shoots in extreme locations, such as a simulated submarine, a military airbase, and a frozen Arctic research station. Coordinating these massive production efforts alongside the busy schedules of the lead actors naturally extends the timeline.

There are no official spin-offs in development for the franchise at this time. The network and production companies remain entirely focused on continuing the main storyline centered around the core detective duo. Viewers looking for more mysteries in this universe will have to stick to the flagship series.

The upcoming season moves away from the previous military settings to a remote Arctic research station. The plot follows the detectives as they investigate the murder of a British special forces officer amidst rising international tensions. This harsh environment will test the characters as they navigate a dangerous scramble for energy resources in the melting polar climate.

Several new actors are joining the ensemble cast for the Arctic-based storyline. Additions include Jeppe Beck Laursen, Steven Miller, and Naomi Yang, who will all play key roles in the new mystery. They will act alongside returning veterans like Gary Lewis and Dominic Mafham as the investigation unfolds.
