Production Note - Limited Series

Production Type: Limited Series

Lockerbie: A Search for Truth is a standalone Limited Series designed as a completed, finite historical narrative. Based on the non-fiction book by Jim Swire and Peter Biddulph, the production explores the 1988 Pan Am Flight 103 disaster and the subsequent decades-long quest for answers. The project was developed as a high-prestige dramatization with a clear beginning, middle, and end, focusing on the personal toll of the tragedy and the complex legal battles that followed, which naturally limits the scope to a single, comprehensive story arc.

The production utilized a significant budget to recreate historical settings across multiple countries, emphasizing the global impact of the event. By casting Academy Award winner Colin Firth as the lead, the creators signaled a commitment to a singular, impactful narrative rather than an ongoing franchise. The series concludes once it has thoroughly examined the established historical record and the emotional journey of the central figures, fulfilling its purpose as a definitive cinematic record of the search for truth.

Production Trivia: Lockerbie: A Search for Truth is a five-part limited series co-produced by Sky Studios and Carnival Films for Sky and Peacock. The series is written by David Harrower and directed by Otto Bathurst, based on the book The Lockerbie Bombing: A Father's Search for Justice. Production took place in Scotland, Malta, and Morocco to capture the international scope of the investigation and the legal proceedings that spanned several decades.
