Series Deep Dive:

Frederick Forsyth’s seminal novel receives a razor-sharp modern update in The Day of the Jackal. Anchored by compelling lead performances, this globe-trotting cat-and-mouse game trades vintage mechanics for high-tech surveillance and lethal precision. Sky Atlantic delivers a cold, calculating espionage drama where procedural tradecraft meets psychological tension. The pacing stays razor-thin throughout, keeping viewers hooked across every cross-border pursuit and tactical misdirection.

Yes, Peacock and Sky officially renewed The Day of the Jackal for a second season shortly after its November 2024 premiere. NBCUniversal recently confirmed at their 2026 upfronts that the new season is scheduled to premiere in 2027.

The second season is currently in the active filming and production stage as of mid-2026. The crew is shooting across various international locations, including a reported return to Budapest.

The extended wait is primarily due to a major creative reshuffle that saw David Harrower take over writing duties from original creator Ronan Bennett. Furthermore, the series requires an extensive international shooting schedule and a lengthy post-production window for its complex action sequences.

There are currently no canonical spin-offs in development for the series. Universal International Studios and Carnival Films are focusing all their efforts on delivering the second season of the mainline show.

Yes, Eddie Redmayne is officially returning to reprise his starring role as the elusive assassin. He also remains heavily involved behind the scenes as an executive producer for the upcoming episodes.

Recent production updates confirm that Pablo Schreiber, Weruche Opia, and Matt Bomer have joined the cast for the second season. They will be introduced as major new players in the expanding global hunt for the assassin.

Following the recent creative shake-up, Carnival Films confirmed that the second season will steer closer to the plot of the original Frederick Forsyth novel. This marks a noticeable shift from the first season, which famously deviated from the source material.
