Production Note - Limited Series

Production Type: Limited Series

Obi-Wan Kenobi is a standalone Limited Series designed as a completed, finite historical narrative. Developed as a major event for the Disney+ platform, the production was crafted to bridge the gap between the prequel trilogy and the original films with cinematic scope. The project utilized cutting-edge StageCraft technology and a high-profile cast to ensure that the six-episode run carried the weight of a theatrical release while exploring the psychological depth of the title character's exile.

The series was intentionally designed with a definitive conclusion to respect the established Star Wars timeline and the eventual fate of the characters in A New Hope. By focusing on a singular, high-stakes mission, the narrative provided a complete emotional arc for Obi-Wan and his relationship with his former apprentice. Although the franchise remains active, this specific production was marketed and executed as a self-contained story with no immediate plans for continuation beyond its original run.

Production Trivia: Produced by Lucasfilm, the series stars Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, with Deborah Chow serving as the sole director for all six episodes. The production utilized the Volume, a 360-degree LED immersive soundstage, to create various planetary environments.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is a standalone limited series, and Disney has confirmed there are currently no plans for a second season. The story was designed as a complete miniseries, though the characters may appear in other future Star Wars projects.

The series consists of original material written specifically for Disney+ and is not based on a true story or a pre-existing novel. It serves as a canonical bridge between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope within the Star Wars universe.

The production was primarily filmed in Los Angeles, California, using the innovative StageCraft virtual production technology. Some outdoor scenes were also shot in various locations across California and Utah to depict the desert environments of Tatooine.

There are a total of six episodes in the complete limited series. Each episode follows the Jedi Master as he emerges from hiding to protect the children of Anakin Skywalker from the Galactic Empire.

Hayden Christensen reprises his role as Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader, marking his first major return to the franchise since 2005. His performance includes both flashback sequences and physically portraying the Sith Lord in his armored suit.

The series is set ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and nine years before A New Hope. It explores a dark period for the Jedi where the Empire is actively hunting down the few remaining survivors of Order 66.
